Health considerations
Flat faces mean breathing issues, tear staining, and dental crowding for many lines. Find a breeder selecting for more moderate faces, and budget for regular eye cleaning and dental care.
Setting up the grooming routine
A metal comb, not a slicker brush, should do most of the daily work — combing reaches the undercoat where mats actually start, while a brush often just skims the surface. Daily eye wipes with a damp, soft cloth prevent the reddish-brown tear staining common to the breed's flat face.
In return, you get one of the most affectionate, dog-like cats you can own. The trade-off is worth it for the right owner.
